Home and enjoying Mom's great cooking - tofu with pickled vegetables and strips of lean pork - our favorite. Nothing tastes better than simple, home cooked meal.
Our last day in LA and we went to the Proud Bird restaurant right by the airport. The Proud Bird is like an aviation museum, with planes, photos, memorabilia on all the notable aviators, war heroes, and lots of history. Not only was the food excellent, but it's such an interesting place to visit. I ended up taking most of my grilled herbed chicken sandwich on the plane. Zakka's chicken scallopini was devoured.
We had a shoot in Monrovia this morning and it took almost 2 hours to get there - but once there we were pleasantly surprised by how nice the town center was. Had the greatest apple rainsin sugarfree muffin at Vera's Cakes and Pleasant Cookies, and later a wonderful grilled chicken sandwich in the car, rushing to North Hollywood for another shoot. It was a busy but very nice day.
After getting lost and always taking the wrong turn to Sawtell, we finally found the area and went to Curry House and I had their special curry udon. It's always good..
Great day driving around west Hollywood, Silverlake and then to Little Tokyo. Can't stop by Farmer's Market without having a corn beef sandwich at Phil's Deli and who can pass up free cupcake at a boutique in Silverlake. We always eat at T.O.Ts in Japan town. The usual spicy chicken bowl for Zakka and I had their new T.O.T ramen.
Had a wonderful dinner at Kabuki at the Howard Hughes Parkway Plaza which was only a 10 minute walk from our hotel. After driving for almost 21/2 hours from San Diego, my cha-sui ramen with rich pork broth really hit home.
For dinner tonight, we ventured to Pei Wei Asian Diner, which is an offshoot of PF Chang's and I had vegetarian stir fry with tofu kung pao style, and Zakka had Mongolian beef, and crab wontons. The ambiance and price were good but we probably had a week's worth of sodium. Hopefully the iced green and black tea cleared our arteries.
Bondi is an Australian bistro - I had a great vegetarian sandwich and a very cute 3 oz. Australian Brew sampler, while everyone else around me ate Australian beef burgers. Tried to purchase the glass but the manager would not budge.
Had dinner at our favorite restaurant Italy's Little Kitchen on Manchester right across from Custom Hotel a real nice boutique hotel we are staying for the night. Of course it's not complete until we have cured our donut fix at Randy's Donuts. And while at Ralphs, came upon nectarines and plums for only 49 cents a pound - why are we paying more than $2/pound?
Bob Johnson was a man bigger than life - literally - he was as he puts it 5'20"! Many of his friends and colleagues gathered today at his unfinished house celebrating a life well lived but taken so early. I was lucky to have been one touched by his kind soul.
Ate so much good food that I forgot to post this last night - but here it is - thanks to Stan - everything was delicious. The whole cast & crew just ate it up.
